Dawn Marie Roper
Dawn Marie Roper is a speaker, a writer and an administrative professional. Dawn Marie’s life purpose is to serve other people. There are three areas of personal development which she is most passionate about: selling people on their personal value, personal resilience and the need to build personal wealth. Consequently, she started Solutions and Productivity Communication Consultancies in October 2016, to provide people with need specific solutions for productive communication and living. She has written one book so far about personal resilience.
Dawn Marie started her career as a professional secretary in 1994 having graduated from the University of Technology with a Diploma in Office Administration. She has a natural talent for writing and later earned a diploma in Public Relations. She also studied Women’s Leadership at the Coady Institute at St Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia (2015). Today, she is in her third year of studying Social Work at the Jamaica Theological Seminary.
Through several postings in corporate, government and non-profit organisations has gathered extensive experience in coordinating administrative and information sharing events. She has helped to organize conferences, workshops, training sessions, speaking engagements, media launches and social events on a local and regional level. She has written project reports as well as articles and features for media. She has also held many voluntary leadership positions in organisations such as in the Jamaica Association of Administrative Professionals, Toastmasters International, New Vineyards Citizens Association, Fellowship Tabernacle’s Women’s Ministry and Mensana Jamaica, where she is the current chairperson. In all of these spaces she has used her organising and writing skills to the fullest. She has also won awards for report and creative writing.
A few of Dawn Marie’s most memorable career activities include helping to co-ordinate the attendance of the Jamaican contingent to the Toastmasters International Conference in Florida and helping to plan and co-ordinate the Toastmasters Caribbean regional conference in Montego Bay. At the Port Authority of Jamaica she assisted the Community Relations and Public Relations Managers to plan all company and staff events such as a regional Port and Tourism Conference in Montego Bay, staff parties and sports activities. At NCB she co-ordinated fund-raising formal dinners as well as staff training programmes. At Panos Caribbean (a regional non-profit media and research organisation) she was responsible for the Gender Programme in the Jamaica office. She has worked in Haiti interviewing women in the earthquake camps and writing about their experiences. She managed the publication and launch of one of Panos’ collections of oral testimonies and planned the media launch, which garnered much local and regional media attention (2010). She has made successful fund-raising and reporting trips abroad for Panos. For Mensana, she planned and coordinated two members’ retreats (2014 and 2016) and many social activities.
Since 2016, Dawn Marie has been preparing project and event reports for several government and non-governmental organissations on a freelance basis.
